Torii Gate Renovation COMPLETE!!
Over the last year, in an effort to renovate the Torii Gate Garden area, located near the stairs on Shoreline Park, Omni had taken the lead role in planning, fundraising, and collaborating with the Parks and Rec Department and the SB Toba-Japan Sister-City Organization. Funds collected were donated to PARC- Parks and Recreation Committee, a non-profit group that supports funding for SB park projects.
Phase 1 was repairing the old and broken irrigation system and setting rock and boulder placement. This hardscape phase was directed by one of the original builders of the garden, Wade Nomura, an Oriental Garden Master who ensured every rock and boulder was placed with intention. In early March, with the support and direction from Parks & Rec staff, phase 2 was implemented with over 100 plants planted by numerous volunteer Mesa residents, several Omni Board members, and Sister City volunteers. P&R later reset the cobblestones of the symbolic pond and added mulch to the area. With all the recent rains, the plants are beginning to take hold and are looking strong. Plans are in process to paint the picnic table located next to the garden which will enhance the beauty of the area. This beautiful garden offers a place of beauty and respite to everyone who is enjoying our Shoreline Park.
